05.01.22. Birdlog.

Silver collared Pink-footed Geese (VXI & VXP).

An early start and a watch from the footbridge across M56 motorway at the bottom of Smithy Lane, Helsby.

Whooper and Bewick’s Swans.

The family of four Bewick’s Swan were immediayely present on arrival with the 21 herd of Whooper Swan and c200 Pink-footed Goose, including the silver coloured neck collared birds which appeared to be either a pair or siblings, because they are alway together? A couple of Little Egret and a Grey Heron were busy finding food in the flooded field. An update from @KaneBrides has confirmed both geese first ringed in Iceland in 2017. VXI is male, and VXP female. Reported in Norfolk Dec 17 -Jan 20, and then Formby & Lytham Moss Oct 2020 and RSPB Marshside Sept 2021.

Noisy traffic from the M56 motorway bridge.
Cattle Egret and Black-headed Gull.

After feasting my eyes on that lot I drove over to Marsh Lane, Ince where one of the four Western Cattle Egret was with four Little Egret.
