On route to a day in Chester we managed to see the herd of 15 mixed swans on Lordship Marsh, most of which were Whooper Swan.

n our way home we dropped into Kinsey’s and Marsh Lanes at Ince where we had 5 Western Cattle Egret, 10 Little Egret and 2 Grey Heron. Out off the Ince salt marshes were 5 Great and c10 Little Egret were joining the Black-headed Gull flocks feeding on what the recceding tide conjured up.

  1. when is the best time to see short eared at the Marsh. I have seen them there in the past but can’t remember what months they appear.

    • Hi, SEO’s arn’t as regular as they once were, so it’s a case of being lucky either at ducsk on the margins of No.6 tank or hoping we get them in March when migrants are moving north.
