23.12.19. Birdlog.

I am making the most of these Christmas holidays and of course the fine weather.

I started my walk at Ince where the pools held a flock of c60 Eurasian Teal, c30 Gadwall, numerous Mallard, Eurasian Coot and a single drake Northern Shoveler. A skein of c80 Pink-footed Goose passed overhead towards the Mersey Estuary. Out on Ince Marsh were several Little Egret and 2 Great Egret being noted amongst the hundreds of Canada Goose and Common Shelduck feeding out there.

The field alongside the Holpool Gutter held c100 Eurasian Curlew, a dozen  Black-tailed Godwit and a single Ruff.

There were 2 Marsh Harrier hunting over No.4 and No.6 tanks alongside Common Buzzard and 3 Kestrel all in the air together. The sand extraction area had numerous Raven with a mixed flock of Carrion Crow and Western Jackdaw.

The Whooper Swan herd were closer to Lordship Lane and now number 20 birds with 2 Mute Swan close by.

A Mistle Thrush a relativley uncommon species was feeding in the ploughed field with c20 Pied Wagtail near to the Growhow Works.

Walking along the cycle path a Great Spotted Woodpecker landed close by in a tree, and a Peregrine was digesting its meal sitting on a lighting unit on the glass recycling plant.

A rare (these days) Willow Tit was by the C.E.G.B pools per Frank Duff.

An almost fully hooded Black-headed Gull was on the small lake in Runcorn Heath Park off Park Road, Runcorn at dusk per WSM.
