08.11.19. Birdlog.

A day off work and a mid morning walk around No.6 and No.4 tanks.

A herd of 7 Whooper Swan which included; 4 juvenile and 3 adult were on the water with a reasonable number of Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Teal, Mallard and Common Shelduck.

Several Kestrel and Common Buzzard were active during my walk with numerous and everpresent Raven riding the chilly wind.

A flock of Linnet and European Goldfinch were feeding on the flower seed heads by No.3 tank and later joined by a mixed flock of Chaffinch and Reed Bunting.

Out on the Frodsham Score saltmarsh were hundreds of Canada Goose at the rivers edge, while a wildfowler made his way back towards the canal empty handed. Not much else apart from a small flock of Northern Lapwing and a handful of Little Egret were seen on the river edge. The field adjacent to the Holpool Gutter held a mixed flock c400 of Eurasian Curlew and Black-tailed Godwit with a Little Egret also seen.

A female Merlin was perched on a straw bale watching the flocks with interest.

On Lordship Lane a Grey Wagtail and several Pied Wagtail put advantage of a manure pile packed with insects. A look over Lordship Marsh from Helsby and 10 more Whooper Swan were in a flooded field near the M56.

An earlier dart from work and a look across No.6 tank was brief but did produced a Marsh Harrier, 93 Northern Shoveler, 7 Northern Pintail and c450 Eurasian Teal.
