With the evening light increasing day by day I took advantage of an early dart from work to watch along the track above No.6 tank. The brilliant sunshine of the day continued while the sun was setting behind the GrowHow Works providing some impressive views light, colour and shades.
A small number of Mallard were sat on the frozen waters of the sludge tank preening while several hundred Eurasian Teal were forced to a few patches of open water. The Common Buzzard took up its position on the dead tree alongside the teal, no doubt in preparation of a late supper.
With the lambing season beginning to pick up speed there has been an increase in the number of Raven heading head at dusk to their areas of roost further south. I estimated that c70 birds were heading in that direction. One of the departing Raven took time out to harass a male Merlin on No.5 tank.
