28.08.17. Birdlog

The first returning passerine migrants were heading south today with a Wheatear and a juvenile Whinchat on the pipes across No.1 tank. There were 4 Common Sandpiper feeding along the banks of the Weaver estuary where a Water Rail was lurking in the reeds.

Observer: Sean O’Hara.

A walk from Ince marsh fields and another Water Rail was in the ‘Splashing Pool’ by the Pumping Station. The first returning Great White Egret was out on the salt marshes and is probably one of the two seen recently following the ebbing tide over at Hale.

A Hobby was seen over the pig farm and an adult male Marsh Harrier was watched heading west towards Stanlow.

Observer: Shaun Hickey.

A short walk along Moorditch Lane to the mitigation on No.3 tank was dusty, warm and humid with just c300 Black-tailed Godwit being the highlight.

Observers: Sparky & WSM.
