06.08.15. Ruff (male), No.6 tank, Frodsham Marsh. Bill Morton

I arrived on the track above No.6 tank to the ‘tew tew tew’ call of a distant Greenshank on the tank below. Unfortunately two and a half hours later it was still calling constantly and uninterrupted (the sound does grate after a while). There was 400 Dunlin, 18 Ruff, a solitary Curlew, 30 Redshank, 1 Common Snipe and 70 Black-tailed Godwit in or by the open water.

A smaller than usual assortment of ducks included the female Ruddy Shelduck.

The adult female Peregrine was again perched on the blue-topped chimney.

06.08.15. Canada Geese, No.5 tank, Frodsham Marsh. Bill Morton (1) 06.08.15. Canada Geese, No.5 tank, Frodsham Marsh. Bill Morton (2)The two above images give just a taste of a huge flock of c2000 Canada Geese flighting out of the Weaver Estuary to the River Mersey and the Gowy Meadows. The Mersey Estuary has the unenviable record of the largest numbers in the UK.
