18.07.15. Black-tailed Godwits, No.6 tank, frodsham Marsh. Bill Morton

An impressive count of 1200 Black-tailed Godwits including a few small individuals. Also present were 78 Dunlin, 2 Ruff, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper and 34 Redshank.

Duck numbers were much reduced with a single Pochard, 114 Tufted Duck, 6 Gadwall, 23 Mallard and 6 Common Teal. A male Marsh Harrier was out and about the marsh giving some excellent views from both No.5 & 6 tanks.

The Weaver Estuary had small numbers of Common Shelduck but one pair had a crèche of 28 Shelducklings. 2 Common Sandpiper shared the river with small counts of Black-tailed Godwit and Redshank.

We all took part in the National Butterfly count today which included: 34 Gatekeeper, 3 Comma, 2 Red Admiral, 12 Meadow Brown, 5 Large Skipper, 3 Small White, 1 Large White, 6 Small Tortoiseshell and a single Peacock.
