Summary of Recent Sightings

17.05.14. Black-tailed Godwit flock, Frodsham Marsh. Paul Crawley

I’ve been away island hopping/spotting in the NE Atlantic since the 23rd so here is a summary of recent sightings including today from the marsh.

24.06.15. Birdlog

There was a colour ringed Black-tailed Godwit in amounst the 1000 strong flock (and early indications suggest it is a Frence bird) of ‘blackwits’ out on No.6 tank. Black-tailed Godwits were once a regular summering species in higher numbers than these but the recent drainage of Carr Lane Pools over at Hale/Halebank may have contributed to the Frodsham stock.build up. An Avocet was also present and Little Ringed Plover, Common and a Green Sandpiper were on the Weaver Bend (return migration is on its way). Within hundreds of common Black-headed Gulls was a 2nd summer Mediterranean Gull.

Details on the colour ringed Black-tailed Godwit: Ringed on 28/09/2009 at Port-Des Barques, Estuaire Charente.

27.06.15. Birdlog

The highlight of the day for especially for Sean was a Little Gull on the Weaver Bend and a bonus after dipping the same/or previous bird here. Two Ringed and 3 Little Ringed Plover present on the ‘bend’ also included an Avocet, single Black-tailed Godwit and a Common Sandpiper were noted.

There were two Black Swan which flew over the Weaver Estuary not far from the entrance to the Manchester Ship canal. Also noted was a Buzzard pair nesting in the railway bridge which took advantage of some ducklings and plenty of Lapwing on the Weaver bend.
