A short walk from Ince Berth and along the Holpool Gutter late afternoon. A male Merlin sat on a tree stump by the Pig Farm and was a good start to the walk. A Grey Wagtail feeding in its favourite patch next to the berth.
Out on Frodsham Score were hundreds of Canada Geese with smaller numbers of Shelduck, Common Teal and Mallard. The Mute Swan flock was in the field next to the gutter containing 30 in all. Kestrel and Buzzard were hunting No.4 tank where heavy machinery has moved in and are cutting roads through the reed beds.
Four Little Egret fed in the gutter and were no doubt sheltering from the bitterly cold wind blowing over the marsh. A flock of swans could be seen in the distance by the M56 possibly the Whooper Swan herd but to far away to tell? Rooks sitting by their nests in the wood next to Growhow works and a Jay nearby. Back by my car another Grey Wagtail was with a group of Blackbird and Fieldfare and a Sparrow hawk was patrolling the area.
