Walking out this morning along the Holpool Gutter then around No.4 and 6 tanks gave up the following:  Wheatear at the crossroad Ince side of Growhow and in the gutter a late moorhen chick hiding in the vegetation. A dead Badger cub lay on the footpath along the gutter looked very young for this time of year. Frodsham Score was quiet not many Canada Geese to be seen. The Canal Pools held about 60 Coot with Mallard, Teal and Moorhen. The small pool on No.6 had a good number of Teal and a pair of Little Grebe. A pair of Greenshank were amongst a large flock of Lapwing with 4 Dunlin and a single Ringed Plover at the waters edge. Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Sedge Warbler all feeding in one area on the bank of six while a pair of Jay flew across . More Chiffchaff along Lordship Lane with Kestrel and Buzzard being the only raptors seen on the walk.

02.09.14. Spotted Flycatcher. Frodsham Marsh. Bill Morton

I made a short trip to the marsh after work and made my way to No.6 tank for the waders, I was not disappointed with 350-400 Dunlin present. Also notable was a nice flock of 100 Ringed and a single Little Ringed Plover. Two Curlew Sandpiper were complimented by 4 Little Stint. A solitary Greenshank (presumably one Paul had seen earlier) flew in calling but soon departed.

There were plenty of passerines about with Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Whitethroat seemingly everywhere. A splendid Spotted Flycatcher caught my attention as it fly catched from hawthorn trees alongside Moorditch Lane.

Earlier in the day on Runcorn Hill there was 4 Willow Warbler in sub-song and a Willow Warbler song morphing into a Chiffy? Very confusing but reasonably interesting. Also a Tree Pipit moving through part of a movement of birds first thing this morning.
