01.07.14. Birdlog
An early start and morning walk from Ince berth along the Manchester Ship Canal taking in the Canal Pools and around No. 4 and 6 tanks. I managed the following birds: Great Crested Grebe on the MSC at Ince. A light phase Common Buzzard on the dredger berth made me look twice! There were again several Sedge and Reed Warbler still holding territory in various places.
A pair of Mute Swan with 3 cygnet on the Canal Pools with several Coot broods and another Great Crested Grebe but this time with a single well-grown young. 2 good size Carp (belly up) with more feeding close to the surface. A group of cattle cooling of in the pond.
There was an Oystercatcher with 1 well grown chick on the dry pool on No.6 tank. Whitethroat and Blackcap seen and heard along the path with Goldfinch and Linnet in good numbers. Great views of a reeling Grasshopper Warbler along Lordship Lane .
