23.10.12. Birdlog

23.10.12. Birdlog ( All reports from No 6 tank unless otherwise stated)

An evening visit under the murky grey skies of the last two hours of the day conjured up a small selection of waterfowl including, 280 Common Teal, 21 Gadwall, 2 (female) Pintail, (juvenile) Goldeneye, 56 Tufted Duck and 6 Pochard.

Two squealing Water Rails were obviously contesting feeding areas going by the racket they were making in the reedbeds below the banks.

The highlight was a (female) Marsh Harrier over the tank and then onto Lordship Marsh. A Sparrowhawk chasing the gathering Starling flocks. Additionally, 5 Buzzards were loitering along the fence posts on No 5 tank keeping watchful eyes on the 8 Ravens feasting on yet another dead sheep.

300 Lapwing, 50 Golden Plover and 3 Ruff gathered for the roost.
